Looking for help with Section A and B on the first tab in Scaler 3

Hi All,

I’m currently trialling Scaler 3 and I’m stumped with how to use it. I’ve read the manual and I’ve watched the tutorial videos but I still don’t understand the concept of Section A (Chord Set) and Section B (Current Scale). My problem is understanding how they relate.

I’m completely ignorant with regard to music theory. So that could be part of it. What I’ve been doing is loading a chord set in section A and pressing the bind button to let me play that progression on the keyboard. The bit I don’t understand is how section B ties into that. I’ve selected the padlock icon in section A to lock the chord set to the current scale, but it always sounds the same. I can see the chord number changes, and the names, and some go gray, but nothing changes how it sounds.

I know I’m missing something basic here, but I just can’t get my head around it.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @sp0001 welcome to the forum. The scale lock button (padlock) is intended to transpose selected chord sets into your selected scale. So you can select a scale, then browse chord sets and they will all be transposed to best fit your selected scale.

However transposition only happens when a chord set is selected, not when a scale is selected. So selecting a different scale will not alter the chord set at all. If you wish to transpose the selected chord set to a new scale, you will need to re-select your chord set by clicking it again.

Ah, that makes sense. Thank you for that. It looks like a powerful bit of software, just a bit tricky getting my head around it!
