Hi. I’m triggering bound chords using C2 and playing notes using the ‘Chord Notes’ Keys-lock option. I’m in Ableton Live. I’ve just realised that, say you are triggering 16ths for the chord notes, when C2 is triggered for the chord, a note is skipped. So it appears you can’t play the trigger note and the chord note at the same time. Is this behaviour correct? If so, is there a way around it? Many thanks.
Hi @flightstudio and welcome to the forum. Do you mean triggering 16th notes at exactly the same time as they change of a chord?
Hi Davide, thanks. Yes that seems to be the case for me. I have TRACK1 which has a 2-bar clip with a C2 quarter note at the start of the first bar. On a second track I have an instance of Scaler 2 with ‘MIDI From’ coming from TRACK 1 and Monitor set to ‘Auto’. Also on this track is 2-bar clip full of 16 notes at C3. I record the MIDI output of the Scaler 2 track on a 3rd MIDI track. When the clips loop it shows that 16ths are replaced by a quarter note at the start of the bar. Hence if you have ‘Keys-Lock’ ‘Chord Notes’ activated at this point you would hear nothing. I hope I’m making sense! Thanks for your help.
For clarity, I’ve just tested and this isn’t an issue playing a clip on the same track which has a C2 trigger note and a series of 16ths at C3. In this situation it seems to work. So it appears this is related to Ableton routing? Perhaps Ableton can’t receive and play clip notes simultaneously.
The reason for the setup is that you can have multiple instances of Scaler on different tracks, say for a bass, lead, pad etc and feed these instances with a trigger note from one track, thus all chord changes are in sync. Thanks again
Here is a simple setup.
When a clip on the Scaler 2 track includes latched chord notes (C2 etc) and 16ths played at C3 with ‘Keys-Lock’ ‘Chord Notes’ switched on, the recorded output is as expected:
When the trigger notes in this clip are muted and instead fed from the trigger track the output is as below, it doesn’t include all the 16th notes.
I’ve tried many ways to get around this but can’t seem to solve it. Unfortunately is breaks my workflow. As mentioned above, I use a trigger track to multiple instances of Scaler, bass, lead etc, so they are all in sync and use the same chord notes but t seems these notes are always skipped.
Is there anyway around this? Thanks.
