It makes NO SENSE to me that “add chords to…” should OVERWRITE ALL CHORDS

I keep trying to use Scaler 3 like a scratchpad chord discovery/modification tool, and i am foiled at every turn. None of the intuitive things are happening.

I basically want to use SCaler to find chords and progressions by ear. As i find an interesting chord i like the SOUND and FEEL of, i want to drag it into a sort of scratchpad area. I have been trying to use progressions and or the main track this way, but it’s lacking so much in the way of intuitive “chord gathering/discovering/modifying”

For example, say i fond a chord i just love the sound/feel/mood of, i want to stick it on a “shelf” while i continue to add to that collection, until i find a series of chords i love.

I also want to be able to edit the voicing of each chord as i go. So, say i find a lovely first chord, i want to be the first chord, i select it and tell it to add it to progression 1. It goes there. Now i search around for another chord i want that will sound/feel/mood well after the first chord, but it needs some tweak. I want to be able to add it to that “shelf” of chords i’m building. I try to use the progressions that way, but if i select a chord and tell it to ADD it to progression 1, it completely BLOWS away ALL of the chords in that progression. This is dumb.

Also, if i have a few chords in a progression, and i want to modify one, i can’t edit it?

This software is proving to be limited in very bizarre ways.

I use the sketch area as a “shelf” as well. Don’t know if this will fit your workflow but what I do is add the chord to the Main Track and then drag it from there to the sketch area. That keeps the chords already there and then I can either keep or delete the chord in the MT.

so you drag them in and out of the mt?

the thing about this that annoys me is that if I start and stop my DAW the main track starts playing. and I’m not using scalar in that manner.

I want to be able to edit the chords right in the progressions sketch slots. sometimes I find a cord that’s close to what I want I want to pop the cord open and edit mode and either add a note or move a note or whatever. I do this by feel not by memorizing thousands of chords. so I want to be able to immediately pop open a cord and adjust the voicing or edit the cord right then and there. not go and have to try to figure out which court it is among thousands
