Importing MIDI into Scaler 3 while keeping rhythm/timing of the chords

Hello,
I have a question regarding MIDI import behavior in Scaler 3.

I recorded my own chord progression in my DAW (Reaper), using a custom rhythm/timing that is not a standard 1-bar pattern.
I would like to import this MIDI back into Scaler so I can use its Basslines, Arpeggios, Phrases, Performances, etc.
However, when I drag the MIDI file into Scaler or use the Detect function, Scaler only detects the harmonic content and does not preserve the rhythm or note timings.

Is there a way to import MIDI with its original rhythm intact so that Scaler treats it as a playable pattern (the same way MIDI Capture works), and lets me apply Basslines, Arpeggios and Phrases based on that exact rhythm?

I’ve tried:
• Dragging MIDI onto Scaler → rhythm is lost
• Detect mode → rhythm is lost
• MIDI Capture → works, but requires realtime playback in the DAW

My question is:
Is there a method to import a MIDI file into Scaler 3 that preserves the exact note lengths, rhythm and timing (without having to capture it in realtime)?
If not, is this feature planned for a future update? It would be extremely useful for working with custom chord rhythms.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I really want to know this too. And I can’t understand what you mean by MIDI capture works but requires real-time playback in the DAW. If that works I would gladly do that, but I don’t understand how i would do that.

I also have this question – though I’d like to record the chords directly into Scaler and have it remember the timing. I’d settle for a MIDI import though.

I have a tangentially related request - I want to use detect midi or audio to input a melody, preserve the timing of the melody on playback, and while playing the melody be able to trigger chords to hear how they sound with the melody.
Seems such a basic function that should be possible in the stand-a-lone program, but so far I haven’t figured it out and likely need to use my DAW for melody playback while exploring harmony.

I really want to know this too. I keep having to reenter all the timing manually and it is really hard sometimes to tell if the time is 1/8 or 1/4 notes. Thanks for any help on this.

At this moment, I do not think that this is possible.

At the top of my wishlist is melody and rhythm/timing detection, either by directly playing or by importing MIDI or audio file. Then this would be harmonized and I would modify whatever I need.

Scaler is like a living being and every now and then brings something new. So, hopefully, this will be developed, too.

I find Scaler 3 to be overly complicated with none of the immediacy of Scaler 2. Even something like saving a session or a chordset seems to be problematic at times. I detected a group of chords, when I tried same them as a chordset they all disappeared. At times I feel frustrated when using it and end using scaler 2 to get it over with.

This would be a huge help to me as well. I have my fingers crossed.

We are working on a system that retains the rhythm of imported MIDI files (chords) for 3.3!

What scaler 3 also needs is the ease of use as per saving and exporting that exists in scaler 2. Scaler 2 was/is far more immediate. I use both, but scaler is what I use when I have that new idea.

Hi,

I used chord detect mode on a midi file. Chords were recognized, but their lengths were not. Some chord a half measure some 2 measures and so on. Could you please advise how is it possible to detect chord length? Many thanks. Istvan

Hi @karsai it sounds like this is the topic you are enquiring about. As mentioned above, this feature is currently being developed for the upcoming Scaler 3.3 update.
