How can I solo (jam) on the main track without that track playing the chords

I am sure this is simple and I have just missed a setting, but …

If I want to solo along with Keys Lock to an arrangement, how can I do this (presumably on the Main track) without that track also trying to play the chords on the solo instrument (as block chords or motions)?

Thanks, Brian

Hi Brian see if this post I made helps you

Thanks Davide. I think you did understand.

  1. The first (minor) issue was the discoverability of the ‘Keys Lock Chord Mute’ setting - I simply didn’t notice that there was a scroll bar and further settings below those displayed. But by it’s name, this was the setting that I had been looking for and failed to find.

  2. But I don’t think it worked straight away - I think the setting had no effect until I changed the Keys Lock setting in the UI. However, I may be mistaken here as it is working now.

  3. I had already tried muting the Main track, but that also muted the Keys Locked solo, so was no good for what I was trying to do..

  4. And I had already tried shift-clicking on the chords, but could find no way of muting multiple chords - my arrangement has quite a few and doing them individually was too tedious.

But I think I am working now, so thanks for the help - and for the great upgrade!.

Coming back to my point 2. I now have a reproducible case of where the ‘Keys Lock Chord Mute’ setting is being ignored. I have demonstrated it on a screen recording which you can view at https://youtu.be/MT9qe6PMkbM

Further experimentation shows that the chords are muted only if the Keys Lock is set to one of the three “Chord” values. I accept that if I want to jam in the scale, I could do so through a separate DAW track using the DAW’s scale-locking. But it seems awkward and inconsistent that the “Chord Mute” only works for some of the Keys Lock values, requiring me to use a different strategy - and one that wouldn’t work with Scaler 3 stand-alone.

And as a separate point, I don’t like the automatic Note Off on a chord change with Keys Lock mapping. It makes it impossible to play a suspension. Maybe this is one for the wish list!

As I had found that 3.0.1 seemed to fix a couple of other Keys Lock issues I had, I retried this recipe with that updated version. Unfortunately it makes no difference:

  • Setting Keys Lock to one of the three “Scale” values does not honour the ‘Keys Lock Chord Mute’ setting
  • Any note being played when the chord changes is immediately stopped and cannot be held as a suspension into the next chord.

No idea if this will suit you, but this is how I play solos:

  • create one instance of Scaler 3 with “everything” i.e. Main track, bass whatever else I need
  • set DAW sync on, if not already
  • copy this instance to another track
  • renove everything on the Arranger page
  • leave scale on the browse page section B and link it
  • change the instrument to a different one
  • in keys lock, select Scale white keys or whatever i want
  • arm the track with this instance
  • press DAW play button
  • listen to the first instance and play solos with the second one
I hope I did not forget something

Yep it took me a lot of time to realize that… but as other people mentioned jamming in scale just need another instance with the same scale…

Hi guys this may help. And also confirming the following as way to mute a chord trigger (particularly for the ‘Chord’ profiles).

  1. Turn Keys Lock Mute Chords ON in the settings menu
  2. Shift Click the Chords to mute them
  3. Mute the channel in Arrange
