Make it possible to lock suggestions on screen so that the suggestions dont keep changing when I’m trying to experiment between existing chords and suggestions. This goes for the suggestion function and the mediants and neo-riemannian pages, and anything else that provides suggestions.
Also with suggestions, sometimes there is a bar to scroll down while there’s a tonne of empty space on the screen that the chords could occupy. The chords are inside a window within a window. Just put them all in the first window…
Make it possible to add/remove time when dragging to extend a chord rather than just overwriting the existing time or leaving a gap. Would really appreciate a toggle for the 2 behaviours.
Give us options to reduce chord density. Currently you can only increase chord density. Either this or give us some kind of “pads” performance/motion. Really wish I could use my thick chord progressions to easily experiment with thinner chords on lush pad sounds that only need 1-3 notes.
Already mentioned some of these in the main discussion forums before I relasied there was a dedicated feature request forum. Cheers!
I’m talking about editing the chord progression on the main track. When I drag to extend a chord it eats into the adjacent chord or when I drag to shorten a chord it leaves a space. This means I have to manually shift my other chords to account for these changes. So it would be handy to have the option for the other chords to shift in time rather than being overwritten or leaving the space if that makes sense.
Gonna drop a new comment here rather than create an entire new topic. Just downloaded the 3.3.0 update and slightly disappointed that Scaler 3 still can’t replace Scaler 2 for me. I really would love to be able to jam and experiment with suggestions without the suggestions on my screen changing.
Maybe there is a way to do this now but I can’t find it? If not, hoping that you will consider making Scaler 3 be as useful as Scaler 2 for experimentation. Maybe I’m just a crazy niche user but I would have thought a music theory tool would focus primarily on discovery/experimentation, rather it seems Scaler 3 is more concerned about what I might want to do after I have already figured out a chord progression.
I think this comment would be more helpful if you elaborated on your first paragraph. Do you want the suggested chords not to change? Whilst auditioning chords in Section C? The just bind Section C and don’t use Live mode in Suggest. No difference there between Scaler 3 and Scaler 2. Let me know if I have misunderstood you.
I have limited music theory knowledge but I use Scaler to help me compose chord progressions in my DAW by clicking with my mouse. I don’t use any live features or mapping etc… In Scaler 2 every chord I add to the timeline has an individual button for fetching suggestions which allows me to experiment via clicking the timeline chords and the suggestions to see if anything sounds cool. The suggestions dont change while I’m jamming because I have to hit one of the dedicated buttons to fetch new suggestions. The discovery part of my composing means I don’t know what the plan is yet, I’ll usually start by grabbing a few chords I like and experiment with suggestions, then arrange them, I don’t necessarily use the suggestions as my next chord, I often get more interesting results as I play around.
In Scaler 3 the suggest feature brings up new suggestions every time I play a chord from my timeline which means I either need to click on the relevant chord to bring those suggestions back again or select a few chords from the suggestions which just isn’t as handy as how Scaler 2 lets me experiment.
Maybe this was never your intention with Scaler 2. But it’s been my compositional workhorse for years and that’s how I use it lol.
As I said on my original post, all sections that feature suggestions in Scaler 3 seems to change based on the last chord played e.g. mediants and neo-riemannian suggestions… I would love to be able to jam with suggestions without needing to add them to my timeline otherwise it’s just going to get crowded quickly. A little lock button or whatever solution you think would work best I don’t mind, just wish the suggestions would stop changing when I’m jamming.
Ahh go it thank you. Yes in S2 had a fixed ‘suggest from here’ button. You can still do the same thing if you Click on the chord to suggest from and then use BIND to swap the chords without moving the suggest from. You could use the DAW’s note trigger or a MIDI keyboard. Does that help?
FYI there’s a brilliant overhaul of ‘Suggest’ in development which could help greatly.
