Can you edit the Main Track yet?!

Has the ability to edit notes in the chords been addressed yet for the Main Track? This seems to be a weird omission for those of us that program as opposed to play. Unless all of your chords land at the start of each bar and extend throughout, then creating more complex chord progressions is a problem.

Also, the scroll bars (and search) in the B section makes it hard to find the chords you need. This wouldn’t be an issue if you could just draw in chords on the main track, however.

Hi @Imnewhere welcome to the forum. Editing main track chord notes has been supported since launch. This can be done either via the MIDI editor on the Arrange page or via the Circle of Fifths section on the Create page.

To create a chord from scratch you can click the lightbulb icon in the main track to open the suggest window and drag a rest (blank) chord to your main track. Then either right click and choose edit chord and enter notes using the instrument panel like in Scaler 2, or use the MIDI editor on the Arrange page to draw notes using the pencil tool.

Thanks for the response.

Maybe I’m doing something wrong. The only edits that I can make on the Main Track are add or remove notes but only those that start at the top of the grid (or on one of four beats in the measure, regardless of the set resolution).

To be more clear, chords that start on 1:1.0, 1:2.0, etc. are editable for the length of a beat. But, if a chord starts on 1:4.3 or 3:2.4 it doesn’t appear to be editable.

I haven’t found a way to draw in or cut out smaller chunks, so to speak. As others have stated, I haven’t found a way to control the rhythm of the chords on the Main Track.

This appears to be possible from other tracks but if everything is generated based on the Main Track, it needs to be possible there.

Again, this could be a “me” issue, but I can’t figure it out.

Hi @Imnewhere OK perhaps I misunderstood you, this is a slightly different question. I would encourage you to watch the getting started videos on YouTube if you have not already, particularly part 1 which covers adjusting chord durations and the division parameter: https://youtu.be/8N9bEaK25WA?si=wPA2JFEP8f3HD8PA

The default division setting is 1 bar, meaning you cannot split clips into sizes smaller than 1 bar. If you select a smaller division setting such as 1/4 or 1/8 you can split 1 bar clips into smaller sizes which should also change the main track rhythm.

There were also several clip editing improvements introduced in version 3.1 which may be useful here, so be sure to watch the video on the 3.1 update as well which you’ll find on the same channel.
