Working on a second imported midi file, using the chord suggest function

Hi.

Brain overload!

Ive written some chord progressions in Logic 11 and want to import the midi files into Scaler 3 to spice them up.

Successfully imported the first progression (although not using drag and drop which seems to be out of action - bug??), and was able to use chord suggest in section C to get things done.

But when I import the next progression, it seems to overwrite the first.

I’ve experimented with saving the first progression as a sketch. This kind of works, but I just wanted to ask if I’m missing something and there’s a better way?

Incidentally, it would be so good if the chord suggest feature worked in the sketch area. When I press the lightbulb there it generates a whole new progression. Or again, am I missing something?

Am hoping we might get some detailed song creation videos, taking a composition from first concept to finished thing (ideally using Logic but I get it, there are a lot of DAWs).

Preferably by artists who aren’t so close to the product and see it from the user perspective.

I’m sure I’m only using a fraction of Scaler’s power, but it’s taking some time and patience to work it out, even with the manual, available videos and this place!

Huge appreciation to Davide and his team for the great work they’ve put in on this product.

Hi @PetefromBridport
You could drag and drop the midi files on to Scaler 3 (update to latest version 1.0.7 to do so) and save them to your user folder, or you can drag them sequentially to Section C or use Sketch as you state. The problem with throwing up the full suggest page on Sketch is that you wouldn’t be able to drag it back to the lane as it would be covered by the suggest page hence we have it the way it is.

This is all coming with the release of 3.1. Stay tuned!

Thanks, Davide. Looking forward to it.

Hi Davide,

I’m sitting in front of the computer. Have I misunderstood drag n drop? I’m trying to drag a midi region from a Logic 11 track into section A of Scaler (the .7 version you mentioned), but it’s not working.

Export / import is, but obviously that’s a lot slower.

Ahhh, Logic’s MIDI files are not live as in you can’t drag them anywhere, in fact if you try and drag a Logic MIDI file onto your desktop it will create an exported Audio file. So your two options in this instance is to have Scaler 3 ‘Detect’ the chords and populate Section A (which I think you are doing) or Export the MIDI from Logic and then drag and drop onto Scaler 3.

Thanks for clearing that up, Davide. I thought I was going mad. :joy:
