The Power of Chord Progressions

I have always been intimidated with creating “music” - and with Scaler I have learned that most of the “magic” happens in the chord harmonies. I am amazed how fairly straight forward it is to make an enjoyable piece of music (at least in the ambient style I like) with merely an evolving meandering chord progression.

This composition is based entirely on just walking up the chord progression when I select scale C Dorian and then “Variations” menu → “Tonic C”,

and then just walk up the keyboard from C2-C5 (see piano roll below)

This is why I love scaler so much, so many angles to explore and never hand held. You are doing the work, yesterday I was meandering by finding secondary dominants and flatten III’s and II’s as passing or in between chords. Something I could never do as a player but scaler always allows a form of experimentation. Nice work @Bernd

It goes simpler too, this one only has 4 chords in it. Played slowly enough to let the long evolving synth envelopes & modulations play out (ok, so most of my efforts go into sound design, not composing

From the new “Common Expressions”, which I appreciate very much!

Sound design in U-he ZebraHZ, played in 3 instances (layers), all fed the same chords.

Bitwig project look…

Dragged chords from Scaler into Bitwig clip piano roll, that’s all.

I have made this video with your progression in C doric with all the chord variants for C.
I send them to different instances of Aparillo, from Sugarbites.
With Scaler and Aparillo there is to make several soundtracks quickly, hehehe. Hope you like it, Bernd. Here is more sound design, which is your thing

Thanks @jjfagot ! I am a recovering plugin addict, so thank you for triggering my gear acquisition syndrome with the Aparillo tease

Cool- Reminds me of Reaktable which you can now get in software form
