Scaler 3 Update & Crash Files

@PeterKHewer & @goettel - thanks for sharing your respective reports, the dev team will have a look.

System Crashed (WINDOWS 11 PC 24H2 Scaler 3 (version: 3.1.1)

My computer crashed 3x yesterday and once today from the date of submitting this. I did a clean install

Still crashes Reaper - every time

I would really like to be able to use this product but the constant crashing is ridiculous. I have hundreds of plugins - yeah to many - and scaler 3 is the only one to crash on a regular basis. Sometimes I can use it for a few minutes and then bang. Even on sessions with two tracks and no other plugins. I hope some day there will be a version that is stable. If none of my other plugin do this then how can the problem be me? Regards, Gordon

Hi @Gemini-musician. Really sorry to hear this and get the frustration.

Unfortunately, we can’t get any useful information from the screenshot you’ve attached. Would you mind sending us the actual file(s) instead? That way our developers can properly investigate the crash. Cheers.

Hi @Gordo. Thanks for your post, and sorry to hear you’re experiencing consistent crashes.

I’m assuming that by “still crashes,” you’re running the latest version, Scaler 3.1.1? If not, please update, as it includes a number of improvements and important fixes.

If you are already on 3.1.1, could you please share a crash report? That’ll help our developers investigate further. Cheers.

I don’t know what the file you want looks like.

I am not a software engineer or a computer programmer, so I don’t know what the files you are looking for look like, but I did research online an found out that looking at the event viewer could give you what you need. Most errors that occurred were error code: 1000, 1023, etc. as you can see, and the other screenshots were uploaded because of the “critical errors” section

My guess is Scaler 3 has nothing to do with the crashes you are getting. Those screenshots don’t really help but it seems that UA and Arturia are trying to reach out to perform updates and crashing your system. Don’t see anything there that related to Scaler 3. You need to send us a dump file (.dmp) that you took screenshots of in your earlier post to see if we can help you. Whilst this is in no doubt frustrating for you please note we have thousands of users with a similar setup as you not experiencing those types of issues.

Standalone 3 (V3.1.0.4b1e963) crash when inserting VG-AMBER VST plugin on maintrack

Hi there.

I was using Scaler 3 as a standalone, working on a small project and inserted UJam VG-AMBER into the maintrack. It immediately crashed the program. My question is - Is there a way to recover anything I was working on prior to the crash? Any location I can look at for this?

Thanks.

Dan

Scaler 3.1 - Reaper 7.33 Crash Report

Repeated crash of Reaper on a Mac Studio when manually trying to change the length of all midi notes in a chord that has a motion applied. The motion used long notes from a Strumming pattern, IIRC (was using as a pad - I wanted to shorten the duration). Happens with repeated attempts.

My Reaper installation almost never crashes other than this.

Hi Dan,

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, the Scaler 3 Standalone app doesn’t include an autosave or crash recovery system. If the session wasn’t manually saved as a state file or user preset before the crash - and Scaler didn’t retain or reload the previous session on relaunch - it’s unlikely the work can be recovered.

From your post title, it looks like you’re running v3.1.0. Scaler 3.1.1 is now available, and we strongly recommend updating, as it includes a number of important fixes. You can download the 3.1.1 installer from Plugin Boutique (under My Account) or from Scaler Music (under My Products). Cheers.

Hi @Triode, thanks for posting. Since you’re running Scaler 3.1 and I wasn’t able to reproduce the crash based on your description, I’d recommend updating to version 3.1.1 as a first step.

Given you’ve experienced repeated crashes, it may also be worth doing a clean install when updating. If the issue persists after that, please share the crash report here so we can investigate further. Let us know how you go. Cheers.

Thanks, I will give it a try and see how it goes.

Dan

Thanks Steven. The 3.1.1 update seems to have solved the issue so far.

Scaler 3.1.1 Standalone Crashes on Startup

Hello,

I am running Windows 11 and when starting Scaler 3.1.1 Standalone it hangs on startup. The UI does come up but hourglass spins and if I click on the UI I get the Windows message to close the program or wait. Computer is an Intel 12th gen I9-12900K with 32GB RAM. It runs fine as a VST3 in Studio One Version 7.1

Any ideas on what to do? Thanks!

Hi @VocalMike most standalone crashes can be resolved by deleting the standalone state file: C:\Users[NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Scaler 3\Scaler 3.settings

Tip: The AppData folder is hidden by default. To access it, you can either:

  • Type %AppData% in the File Explorer address bar and press Enter to go directly to the Roaming folder

  • Or navigate to C:\Users[USERNAME] and make sure “Hidden items” is checked in the View tab

Thanks! I’ll give it a try
