Scaler 3 Uninstall Routine - and the need for "restarts"?

As we work our way through the early days of the Scaler 3 rollout - I would like to know why (exactly) - when we are asked to update to a new build - we need to go through this annoying process:

  1. Uninstall the previous version
  2. Then manually poke around a series of super obscure (hidden) folders cleaning out upteen obscure files
  3. RESTART the machine
  4. Install the new version
  5. RESTART the machine
  6. Finally get down to work.

This installer is nothing special and neither is the actual plugin file - so what is up with the two recommended restarts?

There must be a reason this keeps coming up and I would like to know what it is.

Just to clarify here. We wanted people that were experiencing issues with our earlier versions to try a clean install. This was mainly for standalone. Actually this is superfluous for plugin users of recent updates.
Are you asking whether it’s necessary to restart your machine after installing a plugin? That’s a great question for AI! Here’s the answer: (PS it’s extra important for any hosting plugin to restart your machine - NI Machine for example and even Reason forces a restart).

Should i restart my mac after installing a plugin?

Yes, restarting your Mac after installing a plug-in is generally recommended, especially for Logic Pro or MainStage. This helps ensure the plug-in is fully loaded and integrated into the system, and may also resolve issues where the plug-in is not initially appearing in the Audio Units menu.

I do not use a Mac (or use Ai) and have never had to restart my Windows machine - ever - after any plugin installation.

If this recommendation is specifically aimed at the Mac crowd - it would be helpful to specify that - very clearly.

Finally - really hoping the standard installer for Scaler will be able to do this reinstall sequence automatically - so we do not need to go thru this every time.

Let’s take something that is 100 times bigger than Scaler 3 - like say Studio One - will run it’s update installer, clean up the old version, install the new version and place me right back on the desktop ready to go in a new session.

Everything is updated in a single pass. No restarts. No nothing.

Surely a tiny installer like Scaler can do this as well.

Are you having problems after installing an S3 update? If not then you are good. If you do, try a restart. S3 does exactly what other installers do, overwrites the relevant files.

No problems. Just wondering why the install of a new version has to be so convoluted.

It really shouldn’t be.
