If I have a user preset saved in Scaler 2 and try to bring in that user preset using the ‘user’ button while running Scaler 2 within Loopy Pro on iPad as an audio unit input, Scaler 2 visually shows that DAW Sync is set to “on“ (as expected, and as it was saved in the user preset) but it appears to erroneously be “off” after importing this user prest, even though it’s showing as “on” visually in the UI… And that setting has to be cycled to off and on again within the Scaler 2 settings each time to actually get it turned on.
Another Loopy Pro user confirmed this behavior is happening in other hosts as well with Scaler 2 on iPad.
Hi @danm. Welcome to the forum. I guess the first troubleshooting steps if you haven’t done so already is to make sure you are running the latest version of Scaler 2 for iPad, and installed any Loopy Pro and iPad OS updates.
Assuming that is all done there are a few things to check. First, when you talk about Scaler User presets, are you referring to Scaler State files? e.g. XML? As opposed to something like a user chord set? Loading state files should recall the DAW sync status, but to make sure it is automatically turning DAW sync on, you can manually enable this in the settings then click Set as Default in the top right.
But if you’re saying that Scaler’s settings show DAW sync as being on, when it is in fact off, and needs to be toggled off then on to start working that is a separate issue that we haven’t seen in other hosts.
Would you mind confirming that this is only when loading a Scaler state file? Or a particular state file? So if you save your Loopy Pro project for example with an instance of Scaler 2 loaded and DAW sync set to on, does it retain this setting next time you open that Loopy Pro project, without manually loading any state files?
Thanks @Tristan, I went to LP in the App Store and only see “Open” as an option, so assuming I’m up to date there. Just downloaded Scaler 2 a few days ago, so assume I’m up to date there. iPadOS Version is 18.2.1.
I tried your suggestion of saving a LP project with an instance of Scaler 2 loaded as an audio unit input and with DAW Sync set to On. When I closed LP and re-opened it to that project (or likewise if I switched to a different LP project and then back to the previously saved project with Scaler 2 in it), I see that DAW Sync shows “Off” in the settings but the group C loop and play/pause widgets look like they do when DAW Sync is on. And when I hit play in Loopy Pro, Scaler 2 acts like DAW Sync is on.
I believe there may be some other Scaler 2 inconsistencies relating to this, so happy to test some more specific steps if you want me to do so, as I believe what I had seen previously was that DAW Sync had erroneously turned off when I re-loaded the Loopy Pro project in one case…but perhaps I was just confused by the some/all of the UI widgetry looking like DAW Sync was off and didn’t try to start LP to see if DAW Sync was actually on (even tho visually in Scaler 2 it looked like it was off).
Also, is the splash screen in scaler 2 supposed to show every time for a recently re-loaded LP project with Scaler in it…in the example above, when I save and re-load the LP project and click on the scaler 2 thumbnail in the mixer to go back to the Scaler 2 UI, I have to dismiss the splash screen each time after the LP project was just re-loaded.
Thanks for the tip about “Set to Default”!
If I select “Set to Default” as “On” for DAW Sync, how would I then easily tinker around with playing/experimenting with group C now and then (without having the Loopy Pro clock running), since with DAW Sync “On” I don’t seem to have any control of the play/pause functionality in group C (or is there a way to copy all the chords from group C back to Group A in order to experiment)…I’m new to scaler so sorry if this is an obvious question.
In the desktop version of Scaler, if you right click on the transport button in group C it toggles DAW sync on and off - which makes it easy to play/experiment with the chord progression.
As far as I can tell it doesn’t appear that there is any similar shortcut in the iPad version, unfortunately. Seems like a good feature to be added to the roadmap, if it’s not already included in the Scaler 3 development - which apparently includes a fairly major rethinking of the UI.
Scaler’s Product Manager has indicated that there will be more detail about Scaler 3 coming next week.
