Scaler 2.9.1 not detecting MIDI properly

I’ve just started using Scaler 2 (on Windows 11) about 5 days ago, and since the very start I’ve noticed the same problem. When I first start up Scaler it detects and displays at the top of the window the notes and chords I’m playing. Then, after a few minutes of playing it stops detecting accurately and shows me a bunch of nonsense. Pressing the MIDI panic button and clearing the slate doesn’t help. The only way I can get accurate detection again is by closing and then restarting Scaler.

This happens when loaded as a VST in Reaper, and when loaded as a VST in Tone2 Nanohost.

I’ve posted a screen capture (no audio) of the problem and posted it here: https://youtu.be/bZfMHTd5tns

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @mabio welcome to the forum. Are you playing these chords into Scaler 2 in realtime using a MIDI keyboard of some kind? This shouldn’t be a problem however sustain pedal usage can sometimes cause issues with the note/chord detection process. Can you see if the problem still occurs when not using the sustain pedal?

A typical use case of MIDI detection would be playing an imported or pre-recorded MIDI clip from your DAW into Scaler 2, or dragging a MIDI clip onto the Scaler 2 interface. Do you still see the same detection behaviour in any of these scenarios?

Hi, thanks for your reply.
Yes, I’m playing in real time using a MIDI keyboard with a sustain pedal.

I don’t have any use for dragging pre-recorded MIDI to Scaler, as my primary use case is real-time ideas of what else might work with chord progressions I’m working on.

I’ll try to remember to not use the sustain pedal at all when using Scaler and see if there’s any difference.
