I know this has been requested before, from the angle of saving storage space. I would like you to consider it again, just from a convenience angle. I’m currently sending MIDI to lots of external instruments from different Scaler tracks, and have to turn off the default piano sound every time I create a new track in Scaler. For those of us (many, I suspect) who never use Scaler’s internal sounds, this would be a good option. And of course, it would only be an option, so it’s not going to bother anyone who likes things how they stand. Thank you.

I think there is scope to greatly improve the whole instrument thing.
First, storage space can be an issue so I’d like to see two versions of the installer. One that contains all the instruments and one that only contains, say, felt piano. The instruments take up about 900MB in total, of which felt piano is just 28MB. It’s useful to always have at least one internal sound because it’s handy for quick auditioning and also because new users can think the plug-in is broken!
Second, I agree that the default instrument selection could be better. I’d like a settings screen where I can set an overall default instrument and then some individual categories that can override that default. So you could, for example, have felt piano as the default, the main chord track default to strings, any bass tracks default to a bass sound, arpeggios default to a synth, strums to guitar etc. All this would be optional but it would make getting a rough arrangement much quicker.
Third, drums and percussion! I know they are not tonal but having simple drum and percussion tracks with a few dozen patterns available would also help the composing and arranging process. These tracks really can be quite basic - the sort of stuff you get in home keyboards (yes, even bossa nova!) The quality is not very important as they’ll almost certainly get replaced in the final song. Of course, if @davide wants to go crazy and give us his take of EZdrummer then that would be mighty fine too!

I think having an updater that is smaller and doesn’t include the already installed sounds is a priority for us and a more common user request. That iPadOS Scaler 2 version does install with 5 ‘essential’ sounds which has worked. Something we may address or see if we can integrate in the future but not for now as it’s a lower priority.
@boingy Drums is something I am innately interested in developing at Scaler Music. We’ve got some ideas and plans but first we are prioritising improving Scaler 3. This includes some things I think you will be happy about given some of your requests and thoughts in other threads…

So how do you feel about what I asked: an option in the preferences to the effect that no instrument is loaded by default onto Scaler tracks?
