No internal sounds from scaler 3. Please help

No internal sounds from Scaler 3. The sound sets are in the correct directory and the test beep does work. 3rd party vst sounds will work with scaler 3. Is there a hidden button I need to push. No internal sound in standalone mode or inside a daw. I have scaler 2 that where internal sounds work. I think I looked at everything I can think of and out of ideas. Please help.

Hi @doobeedoo welcome to the forum. If you have not already, it is advisable to perform a clean install using the latest installer via the steps at the top of the following forum page:

If you have already done so and this issue persists, would you mind explaining a bit further what is happening? Are the sounds selectable via the sounds browser and simply make no sound when played? Or are they not listed in the sounds browser at all?

Perhaps you could post a screenshot of your sounds browser in case it doesn’t look right for any reason. Regardless it sounds like you’re saying you can load a 3rd party instrument plugin via Scaler 3’s sounds browser and this plays without issue. Is that correct?

The sounds are selectable via the sound browser. I have done a clean install twice per instructions. 3rd party instruments do play. sounds are in "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Scaler Music\Scaler 3\Sounds

Can’t seem to upload a screenshot, but here are the specs.

Windows Audio
Speakers (US-16x08)
Input none
Output chanel 1 + 2
Sample rate 48000 HZ
Audio buffer size 480 samples *10.0 ms)
Active Midi inputs microKey-37 keyboard

Thanks for the reply.

Yes this does sound very strange. If you are able to load and hear 3rd party instrument plugins via Scaler 3’s sounds browser, then presumably there is no issue with your audio/MIDI setup. But I can’t think of any reason why the Scaler internal sounds would not make any sound.

Just as one other quick test, can you try loading any of the template presets e.g. Beautiful Strings via the menu at the top of the screen, then press play? All the factory templates use only the internal sounds so please let us know if none of these templates make any sound. In that case we will need to investigate further as to what is happening.

So you are on Windows 11? And you are having this same situation when running Scaler 3 standalone, or as a plugin? Which DAW host are you using when running as a plugin?

I am running Windows 11 Pro with a Tascam 16x08 audio interface.
There is no internal sound from scaler 3 in standalone or within daw.(Cubase 14 pro)
All templates will load and appears normally to run without the sound. Although I have performed a clean install several times, I’m suspect the program, even though appears to load the sound files, it really can’t find or load the sound (flac files). Again 3rd party instruments work fine, and the test button produces the expected beep sound.

Hi, I came here to say I have the same issue.

I am a new v3 user (never installed v2) using standalone v1.0.5 on Windows 10.

I loaded the Nice Strings template, press play, the keyboard shows something happening, but I hear nothing. I can see and choose different internal sounds but none of them work either.

The test beep works and I can hear my VST3 instruments if I load them instead, e.g. in the Main Track. So far I’m just using Windows Audio through my internal soundcard.

Hi, I seem to have a similar problem. I did some work in Scaler 3 (in Logic Pro), it worked very well. When I later opened the song again I could not hear anything. Not from Scaler and not from Logic Pro. When I log off Scaler 3 I can hear the instruments of Logic Pro. Has anyone a solution for that?

I think what you are experiencing is different to the other posters and is normal behaviour. If you use a MIDI FX in Logic Pro X (any MIDI FX) it will not activate until you open it / play it. That is the default behaviour of Logic Pro X and MIDI FX (nothing to do with Scaler 3).

Hi folks. Very odd to hear multiple reports of this from Windows users. I don’t recall hearing any other reports from any other users so we may need to look into what is happening here.

To speculate, some file-syncing services such as Microsoft OneDrive have been known to interfere with certain folder permissions including C:\Users\Public\Documents. This can occasionally cause errors during the installation of Scaler 3, but I have not heard of it interfering with access to internal sounds, although the sounds are installed to this directory.

For those experiencing this issue on Windows, it would be worth exiting Microsoft OneDrive, or other similar services prior to opening Scaler 3 to see if that resolves the issue. Or to check if it is permissions related you could attempt a reinstall by right clicking on the installer and choosing run as administrator. Please let us know how you go as we may need to investigate further.

Thank you very much for the quick reply. Maybe I didn’t express myself clearly, but that’s not the issue. When I open Scaler 3 (with a previously created arrangement) and turn it on, I can’t hear anything at all. I can see that sound is “coming out” both in Scaler 3 and on the other tracks, but I can’t hear it. When I set Scaler 3 to “Off”, all the other tracks in Logic Pro play normally again.

Update: I deleted all the tracks in Scaler (except the main one). Now it works again.

I have followed your instructions, removed one drive, checked drivers etc. Also within Scaler 2, I directed the sound files to the scaler 3 sound folder and the sounds were audible. All of this leads me to believe

That Scaler 3 cannot find or load the sound files. Are there any hidden settings that I can inspect to confirm my theory?

Hi @doobeedoo OK, very strange. It does seem like you are the only one reporting this issue but I can’t think of any other troubleshooting steps to take. Regardless we’ll look into this for you and see what can be done. Perhaps there are some error logs somewhere we can look at and figure out what is going wrong. We’ll get back to you here soon.

I just tried with the ASIO driver in standalone v1.0.7 (using ASIO4ALL) in case that fixes it. But it’s the same behaviour - test tone works fine, VSTs work fine, but internal instruments don’t. I also exited OneDrive and Sync (including killing the processes in Task Manager) - no difference

I’d appreciate any indication of how long it might be until this bug is investigated. I’ve given up trying out Scalar until then - I can’t quickly trial templates because each time I have also find and load a VST so I can hear it.

Hi @shackshack @doobeedoo apologies for the lack of communication. There are a few isolated reports such as this we are looking into however this is one we have not been able to reproduce making things tricky.

Most errors we’ve encountered on Windows have come down to OS permissions. I suggested earlier running the standalone version of Scaler 3 by right clicking on the app icon and choosing run as administrator. Did you also try this? This resolved error 2 messages appearing during plugin scan reported by some users, so it would be interesting to hear if this helps with your issue internal sounds issue as well.

Hi, Sorry to chime in!..I don’t want to undo the clean uninstall that the dev team recommends. This is a long shot and may or may not work, for getting the internal sounds to play!

I use Revo Uninstaller when I want to remove Scaler 3. Then I reboot the Laptop, Install the latest Scaler 3, reboot the Laptop again! I just have to import my Chordset again, as Revo Uninstaller removes everything, when you ask it to Scan for left over files. The Scaler 3 license stays intact, it doesn’t remove that.

There is a Free version of Revo Uninstaller for Windows, I don’t think they do a Mac version.

I am on Windows 10 Pro 22H2. OS Build 19045.5854

I was hoping the latest update with the ASIO option would solve the no-sound issue. It did not.
I have run as an administrator which didn’t make any difference.
There are no error messages that would help troubleshoot the no sound problem.
I am now convinced that Scaler 3 cannot find the sound files (flac), therefore no sound output. As an experiment I have deleted the sound file folder, (“C:\Users\Public\Documents\Scaler Music\Scaler 3\Sounds”) Scaler 3 did not detect the missing sound files. Interesting? Perhaps when the user can select where to place the sound files with an update, that will finally solve the issue. Any input?

Yes, the sound files are installed. They are .flac sound files and they will play with windows media player. Scaler 2 will also play the files. Thanks for the input.

Scaler 2 settings allows the sound file location to be set to any location. I directed it to the scaler 3 sound files.
