Please allow some way to customize the path that Scaler 3 will scan for VST2 dll’s. Preferably this should be customizable from the UI but, if this can be customized through a registry setting please provide documentation on how to do it
Details:
The VST2 spec does NOT specify a fixed location for VST2 Folders (unlike the VST3 spec which does specify a fixed location)
On Windows, Scaler seems to be scanning the “original” path from 1996, C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins but nowadays the location recommended by Steinberg is C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST2 (reference: https://helpcenter.steinberg.de/hc/en-us/articles/115000177084-VST-plug-in-locations-on-Windows)
There are many Installers and plugins that misbehave with regards to installation paths (from installers that don’t allow selecting a location, to plugins that show error messages when trying to load them from an alternate path). Many machines have VST2 dll’s in multiple locations and/or have aliased paths (soft or hard links)
Note: I am creating this request to clearly document the need for VST2 path configurability in Scaler 3, and cite the relevant “official” Steinberg documentation. Yes, there are other related requests but they apply to earlier versions of Scaler, or they request something additional and not only VST2 path configurability, and these additional elements make it confusing for tracking the issue resolution.
