Cinematic and classical composers use the Tonntez grid quite a lot, and to be able to create chromatic chord progressions using an interactive version of the grid would be extremely useful!
Hi @gary007 Welcome to the community.
In the Create Page under the Modulation section have you checked out the Mediants & Neo-Riemannian tabs?
Hi Davide!
Thank you for your response to my suggestion…
I have tried the mediants and Neo-Riemannian tabs, and they are very useful.
I think, though, that an interactive visual representation of the Tonnetz grid would be a useful addition to Scaler.
I use the iPad app Navichord, which is based on this concept. Personally I find it an extremely useful way of quickly trying out chromatic chord sequences, by simply tracing paths through the grid. On a computer I guess this would be clicking my way through the grid.
The reason I think this would be an enhancement to Scaler is that this way of exploring chromatic harmony combined with the other tools in Scaler, like the chord colours and inversions, would be very powerful indeed.
I really like the introduction of your chord constellations part of Scaler 3. It’s a great way to visualise the relation between chords both inside and outside a scale, and I think an interactive Tonnetz grid would sit alongside this very well.
Maybe it’s because I am quite visual in my approach to creative things that I like the idea of making chord progressions in this visual way.
Anyway, thank you for your response agin,
Kind regards,
Gary
