Go to preferences under the gear on the upper and under beats change it to less then 4 beats. 2 would be a measure 2 beats long,

Alternatively bind the pattern to midi and either “play” the pattern from a keyboard or using midi clips (see tutorial here and @davide’s videos on YouTube.
