Scaler 3.2 is crashing Reaper (v7.53) on Windows 10. It craches even if I load it into an empty project. Standalone version works. How do I re-install Scaler 3.1 while you fix this? (I know you should not ever install new version while working on a project) ---

Hi @Ste , I also have Reaper 7.53 / Scaler 3.2, but on Win 11. Did you do the clean install of Scaler 3.2? I intentionally did not do it in order to see if there will be problems, but there was none so far. Maybe this could fix the issue. Also, can you provide the error message from Event Viewer for the event that caused crash? Thanks ---

Thanks @Miki, But I tried with a clean install. Deleted the “Scaler 3.settings” and Uninstalled /installed Scaler. Here is 2 error messages; (Is this correct info?) Windows 11 24H2 build 26100.7171 Reaper 7.53 Scaler 3.2 Scaler 3.2 causes consistent ‘hangs’ when loading as part of a Reaper project. Reaper is able to load the project in recovery mode (with all effects and instruments offline) but when I attempt to bring Scaler3 back on line within a track, Reaper hangs (spinning circle) and is totally unresponsive. I waited 30 minutes but Reaper fails to respond (shows a consistent 6% CPU usage). Reaper has to be killed with Task Manager. **The only way to recover the project is to load Reaper with FX offline, then delete the track containing Scaler 3.2, losing all work done within Scaler on that track.** 😭 **It’s important to note that bug occurs when the project is loaded from disk. While the project is being created and worked on, Scaler works OK. The problem occurs when a saved project containing a Scaler 3.2 session is loaded.** **In its current state, I don’t trust Scaler enough to use with confidence. The ‘save often’ maxim doesn’t apply here, as the problem manifests when you try to load a Reaper project with Scaler 3.2 on a track.** EventViewer logs this: The program reaper.exe version 7.5.3.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel. I will second this issue in Studio One 7.2. It worked the first time I used it but not after it was saved in a project and that project was re-opened. ---

“**[pmn](https://forum.scalermusic.com/u/pmn)” who describes the bug exactly as I experienced it. I’m running Reaper 7.56 on Win 10. Everything works, (even a complex setup loading multiple VSTs in both Scaler and Reaper) except whenever I save a project, (even a bare bones simple on) if I try to open it it locks up Reaper completely, reporting 6% CPU usage. Although it doesn’t report as “not reponding” the only solution is to kill Reaper with the task manager.** ---

Hi Davide, thanks for referencing this. I see in that other thread it was for Mac version of Scaler, my issue was with Windows. I don’t know if that has any bearing on it. As a side note, I have not used it in that fashion (in the DAW) since then, however I have now upgraded to the new Fender Studio Pro so I have that on my system as well. I’d be willing to try a Windows beta version if you had one. Dan ---

Similar issue here, with latest Windows / Reaper / Scaler. Duplicating a track with Scaler appears to instantly trigger the bug, where Reaper and Scaler become unresponsive and the only thing I can do is End Task through Task Manager, and thereafter any attempt to load the project (without the duplicated track, since it couldn’t be saved) results in a hang, even after a reboot. ---

I’ve been using the beta every day now for a week or so, and I’ve had no new hangs related to Scaler. Tracks that hung with the previous version are not fixed, and if I enable the Scaler beta on one of those it will hang every time, so that work is probably lost, but so far no problems with any new tracks. ---

I was wondering if there has been any development on this issue. I am also running Reaper (7.61) on a Windows 10 PC and following the latest Scaler 3.2 iteration Reaper crashes every time I try to open Scaler 3. This occurs with both the vst3 & dll versions. Hi @MrCrumbly. There has been development on this issue, and we’re hoping to include a fix in an upcoming update. In the meantime, I’ve sent you a DM with a beta build that includes a fix for a Studio One 7 issue that we also suspect may resolve the behaviour in Reaper.
