Critical Freeze Issue in Cubase Project Caused by Scaler 3 (Track Cannot Be Removed or Replaced)

In one specific Cubase project, a track containing Cubase and the plugin Scaler 3.2 cannot be removed. Attempting to delete the Scaler 3 track fails consistently.

Additionally, Scaler 3.2 cannot be replaced with another plugin on that track. When trying to swap it out, Cubase freezes completely, forcing a restart.

This issue occurs for the first time in this particular Cubase project. In previous projects using the same version of Scaler 3.2, this behavior has not occurred.

A related problem appears when closing certain Cubase projects: Cubase sometimes fails to properly unload Scaler 3.2, which causes the application to freeze during shutdown. This unloading issue does not happen in all projects, only in some.

Hi @Leander sorry to hear this is happening. Are you using Windows 10/11? There was an issue discovered where projects containing Scaler 3.2 may have trouble opening on Windows when the saved with a global motion active. This is being addressed in the upcoming Scaler 3.2.1 update which is currently in beta and expected to be released next week.

We can send you a download link for the beta build if you would like to try ahead of time. The update also includes various other fixes primarily intended for users of Studio One and Reaper but may also help in your case.

Same thing happens in Reaper. I have actually never seen Reaper freeze so hard. @Tristan Please consider a vst install that doesnt have your new routing, vst hosting so that I can be confident in your products stability in the future.

Hi @UserNameOfMe welcome to the forum. Are you having the same issue as described above, where your DAW freezes when trying to remove or replace Scaler 3? If so, this is a very strange issue which I haven’t seen reported by others.

Regardless, the Scaler 3.2.1 update is now in beta scheduled for release next week, but if you’d like to try installing the update to see if it resolves your issue, we can send you a beta download link.

As mentioned, this update includes fixes for crashes reported by users on Studio One and Reaper, so hopefully it will help in your case.

Windows 11 (PC)

@Tristan Yes, that’s correct my DAW (Reaper 7.55) completely locks up and requires me to sign out of my windows user to resolve the issue as everything else becomes unresponsive. When added as an insert, or inserted as a new virtual instrument, a white fx window opens, my CPU spiked to 10% usage (high for one plugin). I am on Windows 10 with the extended update plan and Scaler 3.2 stand alone works fine. I followed the instructions to clear appdata/roaming etc., and purged what I could find of Scaler 3 from the registry - which also didnt resolve the matter.

Please do send me the link for the new update beta. I will also once again request a VST version (or an option in standalone to make the VST version disable these features when loaded in DAW) without routing or other VST hosting to reduce points of failure going forward.

Thanks,

Tyler

Thanks Tyler, I have DM’d you a download link. Just to be clear, are you saying these issues occur only when you try to replace or remove the Scaler 3 plugin in Reaper (similar to the original post in this thread)? Or do you have these issues when simply adding Scaler 3 to a track in Reaper?

We have had reports of stability issues in certain DAWs on Windows 11 including Studio One and Reaper and there are fixes in the 3.2.1 update to address these, however issues when removing or replacing the Scaler 3 plugin is not something I have heard reported outside of this thread.
