Carbon Electra 2 crashing my Reaper

Carbon Electra 2, which I purchased and installed yesterday (20260529) keeps crashing Reaper v7.73. All I’m doing is inputting MIDI notes from an external MIDI keyboard or a VST sequencer on an adjacent track in Reaper and changing presets in the browser of Carbon Electra 2.

Hi @robst247 Have you reinstalled and restarted your machine? We have zero crash logs or items on our end. Also we have several Reaper users including on our Beta Team so this may be specific to your setup.

Hi Davide,
I will try reinstalling Carbon Electra 2 and then restarting Windows (I assume that’s what you mean by “reset your machine”).

Unfortunately, since I did a clean reinstall of Carbon Electra 2 and restarted Windows, the VST3 has crashed Reaper three more times.
Is there a crash log somewhere that I can send you?

Yes, if Reaper is crashing repeatedly there should hopefully be something useful we can look at.

Could you please send us:

  • Your Windows version
  • Reaper version
  • Whether it crashes on opening CE2, loading a preset, playing MIDI, closing the project, or randomly
  • Any steps that reproduce it consistently

For crash info, please check:

  1. Windows Reliability Monitor
    Search Windows for Reliability Monitor or View reliability history , then look for the Reaper crash. If you can screenshot or copy the details, that would help.
  2. Windows Event Viewer
    Open Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application , then look for an Error around the time Reaper crashed. It may mention reaper.exe or Carbon Electra 2.vst3 .
  3. Crash dumps
    Please check if there are any files here:
    C:\Users\[YOUR USERNAME]\AppData\Local\CrashDumps

Also worth testing quickly:

  • Open a fresh/vanilla empty Reaper project
  • Add only Carbon Electra 2
  • Try the INIT preset first
  • Then try a few factory presets
  • If possible, try temporarily moving other plugins out of the project to rule out interaction with another plugin
  • Please check you have a Carbon Electra folder in your C Drive
  • If you have any other DAW or hosting environment please check CE2 works there

We haven’t seen widespread Reaper crash reports so far, but we definitely want to understand what’s happening on your system.

Reaper Pro 64-bit version: 7.73 rev 0826fe (latest)

Crashes seem to happen randomly while using Carbon Electra 2.
I will test it in Bitwig, Cubase and PlugInGuru Unify 2 and report to you later.
